Ans. The study of the motion of an object without discussing the cause of motion is called kinematics.
Ans. Dynamics deals with forces and their action on the motion of bodies.
Differentiate between rest and motion?
Ans. Rest: A body is said to be at rest if it does not change its position concerning its surroundings.
Motion: A body is said to be at rest if it changes its position concerning its surrounding.
Difference between Circular and rotatory motion?
Ans. Any turning as if on-axis is rotatory motion. Any rotator motion where the radius of gyration, length, and axis of rotation is fixed is circular motion. And that is the difference. Circular motion is just a special case of rotatory motion. That is, there is no fixed axis and radius restriction for rotator motion. But there is for circular motion.
Define Translatory motion?
Ans. In translation motion, a body moves along a line without any rotation. The line may be straight or curved.
Define Vibratory motion?
Ans. When a body moves to and fro about its mean position is called vibratory motion. The motion of the body repeats from one extreme move to the other extreme motion.
What do you know about Displacement?
Ans. The shortest distance between two points is called displacement which has magnitude and direction. It is directed from the initial to the final point.
Ans. The distance covered by an object in unit time is called speed.
What is random motion?
Ans. The disordered or irregular motion of an object is called random motion.
Define uniform acceleration.
Ans. If the velocity of a body increases by an equal amount in equal intervals of time, its acceleration is said to be uniform.
Define scalar quantity?
Ans. A scalar quantity is described completely by its magnitude only. For example mass, length, time, speed, pressure, area, temperature, etc.
What is a vector quantity?
Ans. A vector quantity is described completely by magnitude and direction. For example velocity, displacement, force, weight, etc.
Ans. The term position describes the location of a place or a point concerning some reference point called the origin.
What is a LIDAR gun?
Ans. A LIDAR gun is the light direction and ranging speed gun. It uses the time taken by a laser pulse to make a series of measurements of a vehicle’s distance from the gun. The data is then used to calculate the vehicles used.
Ans. The rate of displacement of a body concerning time is called velocity.
What is uniform velocity?
Ans. If the speed and direction of a body do not change then the body has uniform velocity. In this case, during any time interval body has the same magnitude and direction. Uniform velocity can be defined as: “If the body has uniform velocity if it covers equal displacement in equal intervals of time however short the interval may be.”
Define Variable Velocity?
Ans. If the speed or direction of the moving body changes with time then its velocity is said to be variable.
What is meant by acceleration?
Ans. The rate of change of velocity of a body is known as acceleration.
What is negative acceleration?
Ans. If the velocity of the body is decreasing then acceleration will be negative. The direction of negative acceleration is opposite to the direction in which the body is moving. This is called negative acceleration.
What do you know about the graph?
Ans. The graph is a pictorial way of presenting information about the relationship between various quantities. The quantities used in plotting a graph are called the variables.
Define Independent variable quantity?
Ans. The quantity which can be changed with our wish is called independent variable quantity.
Define Dependent Variable quantity?
Ans. The quantity, the value of which varies with the change in independent variable quantity is called the dependent variable quantity.

Ans. When a body does not change its position concerning its surroundings. Then it is said to be in a state of rest.
What is meant by Distance?
Ans. The total length/separation of a path between two points is known as the distance between those points.
What is Gyration length?
Ans. A length that represents the distance in a rotating system between the point about which it is rotating and the point to and from which the transfer of energy has the maximum effect.
Can a body moving at a constant speed have acceleration?
Ans. A body moving with a constant speed can have acceleration if its direction of motion changes continuously. For example, a body moving with constant speed in a circular path has acceleration.
How do riders in a Ferris wheel possess translatory motion but not circular motion?
Ans. Riders in a Ferris wheel move in a circle without rotation therefore the motion of the rider in the Ferris wheel is translatory not rotatory.
What would be the shape of the speed-time graph of a body moving with variable speed?
Ans. Lines OA and OB show that body is moving with variable speed. Line OA shows that the speed of the body changes equally in equal intervals of time. Line OB shows that the speed of the body changes unequally in equal intervals of time.
How can vector quantities be represented graphically?
Ans. To represent a vector quantity graphically we draw a line known as a represented line. The length of the line drawn is according to some selected scale give the magnitude of the vector and an arrow on one end of this line shows the direction of the vector.
Does the speedometer of a car measure its velocity?
Ans. The speedometer of a car measures only the magnitude of velocity, not the direction. Therefore, we can say that speedometer of the car does not measure its velocity.
A body moving with uniform velocity. What will be its acceleration?
Ans. A body is moving with uniform velocity then its acceleration will be zero because acceleration is defined as the rate of change of velocity. When the body is moving with uniform velocity, the change in velocity will be zero and therefore the acceleration will also be zero.
What do you know about gravitational acceleration?
Ans. If we neglect air resistance, then all the bodies either lighter or heavier will fall with uniform acceleration. This uniform acceleration of freely falling bodies is known as gravitational acceleration. It is represented by ‘g’. Its value is 9.8ms-2, but for simplicity, we shall use the value of g as 10ms-2.
What is meant by the slope or gradient of a graph?
Ans. The slope or gradient of a graph is defined as the ratio of distance covered along the y-axis to the distance covered along the x-axis. i.e. y2 – y1/x2 – x1.
When ‘g’ is taken positive and when it is taken as negative?
Ans. For bodies falling freely ‘g’ is positive while ‘g’ is negative for bodies moving up.

Ans. There are three types of translator motion.
